Healthcare

The Healthcare Strand aims to promote health and social care opportunities within the West Area Partnership and encourage young people to consider entering higher education to train as a healthcare professional.  It supports the aim that the health and social care professions should better reflect the wider population, and that the opportunity to enter higher education should be open to anyone who has the potential and desire to achieve, irrespective of their background.

The Healthcare Strand works closely with healthcare education and training providers to deliver a programme of fun, informative and inspirational activities to raise awareness of the opportunities available in the healthcare professions.  The activities and events are also designed to utilise the skills and expertise of student ambassadors who are students currently studying for a variety of health and social care programmes.  These students are uniquely placed to promote the benefits of going to university and help inform the young people of the realities of student life from finance and accommodation to extra-curricular activities and volunteering opportunities.  All the activities are designed to help the specifically identified young people reach their potential in higher education whilst studying for a career in one of the health and social care professions.

Aimhigher West Healthcare offers a wide and diverse range of interactive activities and resources for teachers, FE tutors, careers advisors, students and parents. All activities and resources are delivered by experienced health care staff and/or student ambassadors and new initiatives are piloted each year which help build on the previous years successes.  The strand is pleased to able to provide a wide range activities for young people and adults in a variety of settings, for example:
