Welcome to Aimhigher...
West Area Partnership

Nowadays more young people than ever before are going into higher education (HE) in universities and colleges. And by 2010 we hope that half of UK adults under 30 will have experienced higher education. HE can open doors to all sorts of new possibilities and with over 50,000 courses at more than 500 colleges and universities there is more choice than ever before. We want all young people in our Area, no matter what their background, to make the best choices possible for them about HE.

This website provides information and advice for young people and their parents, carers and supporters about going on to Higher Education (HE) and how this can be achieved. It also provides information about the activities, resources and support we can give to professionals in our Area who are working with those young people, so we can work together to motivate them to achieve their full potential.

Aimhigher Poem available to read or download
The 'Aimhigher Poem', so cleverly devised by Judge the Poet as part of the Aimhigher West Partnership Celebration Event held on 1 July 2008, is now available from the Resources Area of the website.  Also available are the Chair's presentations 'Meet the (Aimhigher) Ancestors!' and 'Key Messages'.

Future of Aimhigher
We are pleased to say that on 24th October 2007 Bill Rammell, Minister of State (Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education) in the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), announced that the Aimhigher programme would be extended for a further three years from 2008-011. The Aimhigher West Area Plan 2008-011, showing how Aimhigher West plans to continue its work with learners, parents and carers, and partner organisations can be downloaded from the Aimhigher Planning 2008-011 area of this website.
