West Area Partnership Intervention Model

What is the Intervention Model and who is it for?

The Intervention Model (IM) has been prepared to provide the Aimhigher West Area Partnership with a means of identifying state secondary schools where disadvantage is concentrated, and where activity and resources should be directed in relation to raising aspirations and attainment, and improving progression for learners who have been identified in Higher education outreach:targeting disadvantaged learners (HEFCE 2007/12)

Each of the 150 schools located within the area served by the Partnership has been assigned to one of three bands (A to C) for Aimhigher interventions based on:

Band A schools are offered the highest level of intervention because these institutions are considered to have the greatest need in relation to activity designed to help improve attainment, raise aspirations and otherwise facilitate progression to higher education (HE). The level of intervention on offer then reduces according to the application of the banding type, so that Band C institutions receive the lowest level of intervention.
