Focus on Careers: local web-based careers information

Developed by the Vocational Pathways Strand of Aimhigher West, Focus on Careers is a web-based resource which gives young people the low-down on local careers information in their area. The career areas highlighted match the subject areas of the new Specialised Diplomas and there are links to local training providers offering the qualifications they will need to succeed in their chosen career, right up to Higher Education. There are also web links to Local Area Prospectuses, Connexions database, Jobs4U and other useful organisations offering information and advice to young people.
Initially trialled as an interactive CD rom in Gloucestershire schools, the materials have now being developed into a website which will eventually cover the whole of the Aimhigher West Area. Wiltshire and Swindon and West of England and Gloucestershire areas are currently live, with the intention that Somerset will be live during 2008/09.
A Resource Pack of materials and guidance notes are also available with the offer of free training in its use.
