Staff Development for Teachers and Advisors
Return to list >>
In 2006 when a training analysis was undertaken we consulted teachers, advisers and others working with learners about their staff development needs, these were the topics staff felt they needed most:
- Awareness of the Aimhigher programme and the widening participation agenda
- Understanding the target audience and its needs
- Awareness of the different progression opportunities into, within and post Higher Education
- Giving advice to applicants with special or particular needs
- Advising on curriculum developments and student finance
- Managing and/or coordinating individual placement for work experience etc.
- Providing specific advice post-intervention activities
To meet these needs, the Staff Development Strand in the partnership have developed and can provide training to staff in Schools, Further Education Colleges, Higher Education Institutions, Connexions and other providers who work with young people who have the potential to access higher education.
Events include:
- Workshops or seminars at schools and colleges
- Input into school INSET days or staff meetings
- Workshops for School and College staff accompanying students to external careers events
- Training events on Widening Participation
- Subject-specific events
- Academic development
- Presentations at Head Teachers' or School Governors' meetings
- Larger area/regional conferences
Note: Events are tailor-made to the target group and the needs of the target audience.
